The Launch Party is free and open to the public on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Showtime Studio and Coffee, 2700 Lexington Ave. N. Roseville. The coffee shop will be open during this event.
The 110-page Climate Equity Action Plan provides a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, prepare for climate-related risks, and ensure that all residents benefit from climate action.
Roseville Sustainability Specialist Noelle Bakken presented the plan to the City Council at the July 6 meeting, where the Council unanimously voted to adopt it.
Recognizing that climate change disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations—including older adults, low-income households, people with disabilities, and communities of color—the plan places equity at the center of its decision-making and long-term goals.
The plan expands on Roseville's previous sustainability efforts by focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving community resilience, and preparing for the impacts of a changing climate.
Key initiatives include:
increasing energy efficiency in homes and businesses,
supporting renewable energy,
expanding walking, biking, and public transit options,
protecting and growing the city's tree canopy,
reducing waste, and
strengthening infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events.
Community involvement is a cornerstone of the plan. Through partnerships with residents, businesses, local organizations, and the Climate Justice Advisory Group, the city seeks to ensure that climate solutions reflect the needs and priorities of all who live and work in Roseville.
Public engagement also helps identify barriers that may prevent underserved communities from accessing the benefits of sustainability programs. By establishing measurable goals and regularly tracking progress, the Climate Equity Action Plan serves as a blueprint for creating a healthier, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable city.
Ultimately, the plan demonstrates Roseville's commitment to addressing climate change in a way that promotes economic opportunity, protects natural resources, and improves quality of life for current and future generations.
